The Denim Stories Project™

Denim Field #2

At my installation at LOOK Arlington, something unexpected began to happen.

As people stood in front of my paintings—works that began as worn pairs of jeans—and the "Tell me about your jeans" prompt, they started started recalling treasured memories and sharing them in stories about (and around) their jeans.

Sometimes the stories were funny.
Sometimes they were deeply personal.
Sometimes they were just a sentence or two.

But again and again, it became clear that jeans carry memory.

People talked about the first pair they owned.
A pair they wore through years of work.
A pair they couldn’t bring themselves to throw away.
A pair connected to someone they loved.

The Denim Stories Project™ began as a simple invitation:

“Tell me about your jeans.”

I’m collecting these stories because they reveal something larger:
how an ordinary material can quietly hold the experiences of a life.

If you have a story about your jeans, I would love to hear it.
